I photograph protestors, demonstrators, rabble-rousers - people standing up and speaking their minds!
My names is James Thaddeus and I am a self-trained photographer based in the Netherlands. Originally from the United States, I have an educational background in political science, law, and social science research. I have lived in the Netherlands with my partner, Ilja, since 2017.
Stemming from my education and political interests, my photography focuses on social participation, activism, and cultural experiences. I enjoy covering individuals and groups standing up for their beliefs, and defending their rights and freedoms. This is especially important in the political environment that is so divided and decisive.
For more than a year, I have been a photo-contributor for ZUMA Press Wire Service (California, US). I have heavily covered the climate activism of Extinction Rebellion in the Netherlands, and also LBGTQI+ activism, the Black Lives Matter movement, and activism around Palestinian liberation. My work has been published in The Times (UK), BBC, The Guardian, AD.nl, Wall Street Journal, Dagens Nyheter, and Speigel.de, among others.
I also do event and portrait photography. From art exhibitions to conferences to artistic performances, my experience is wide. I only recently stepped into portrait photography. Whether you are looking for something traditional and professional, experimental and abstract, I don't set myself to standard ideas of portraiture. In other words, I am always looking to try new methods.
If you are interested in collaborating, want to brainstorm ideas, or have any questions, let me know. I would love to hear from you. My rates are negotiable and depend on the assignment.
