When making portraits, shooting editorial images, or capturing events, I love to get close to witness all the details and experiences.

I am James Thaddeus Petermeier, and I am a self-taught Dutch-American photographer based in the Netherlands. I’ve lived in South Holland since 2017. I have a background in political science, law, and social science research. This blend shapes the way I approach photography.
My most recent work has been editorial photography, focusing on social issues, activism, and cultural experiences. I'm passionate about capturing people standing up for what they believe in, whether it’s fighting against climate change, LGBTQI+ rights, or movements like Black Lives Matter and Palestinian liberation. For almost two years, I have been a contributing photographer for ZUMA Press Wire Service. My images have been published in The Times of London, BBC, The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal, and others.
I am also a portrait and event photographer. I've covered everything from art exhibitions to conferences and performances. Portrait photography is a newer focus for me, and I’m eager to explore different approaches, from classic to more experimental styles.
To add a little flare to my work, I love using wide-angles and up-close, personal shots. This adds little extra details that really tell a story. If you’re interested in collaborating or just want to chat about ideas, please feel free to reach out. I'd love to connect and explore how we can work together! I'm open to travel throughout the Netherlands, and even beyond if the opportunity is right.
